Pained Smiles and Utter Politeness

  • Me: Hello, Maam. May I have a moment of your time?
  • Big Boss: Ah, Kat. I hope you've come to bring me good news. I had a good day today, and I'm not really in the mood for bad news.
  • Me: Oh. Heh. I should excuse myself then...(Nervous laugh)
  • Big Boss: You've decided to leave.
  • Me: It was a difficult decision to make, but, yes.
  • Big Boss: Well I hope you're not disappointed.
  • Me: Oh, well, no. I've made great friends here.
  • Big Boss: No I mean in your new place.
  • Me: Oh, yes. Well, I must try my luck. I suppose at my age it's alright to be a dogsbody of some kid.
  • Big Boss: Well it's one thing to be a dogsbody, but you know these international companies, they don't get to pitch for their clients. It's served to you on a silver platter just because they're clients elsewhere.
  • Me: Yes. Well. I will let you know how it goes.
  • Big Boss: Please do.
  • Me: Respectfully, though. I do have a genuine affinity for the brand, for what Sime Darby is and does. I do hope to return one day.
  • Big Boss: Ah.
  • Me: I didn't rehearse that.
  • Both: Hahaha
  • Big Boss: Well I suppose it's a nice place to retire.
  • Me: No, no I mean I'd like to come back after I've packed a few years of experience and contribute. Serve, as you will.
  • Big Boss: Ah.
  • Me: And I will miss everyone here.
  • Big Boss: Yes, I believe this place has evolved to a good place, if you consider the challenges.
  • Me: I have to thank you for the opportunity.
  • Big Boss: Well I wish you'd stay. But if you've decided.
  • Me: Yes. But I am grateful for the experience.
  • Big Boss: You're welcome.
  • Me: I'll excuse myself then.
